LETABA to PUNDA MARIA

We took advantage of the Shot Left Challenge and called Central Reservations on a Thursday morning. We asked if there was any availability for Mopani Camp that night to which the response was "Hau! Tonight?" "Yes, tonight" we replied. They processed our transaction and we left Jo'burg hoping all was in hand.

It wasn't! Our 12v cable for our fridge had been "misplaced" (culprit knows who he is) and after a detour to Germiston, we finally hit the road. Quick stop to see Bru & a pit-stop for provisions and things were looking good.

Good, that is until a part of of hire vehicle parted company with us and we had to make roadside repairs. We finally got to Phalaborwa Gate at 18h10. After a pleading & begging session, SANPARKS graciously allowed us to proceed (at normal pace) to Letaba Camp. What a drive!

The rains had just started and a lot of animals were coming onto the road. Hyena, elephant, Mozambican Spitting Cobra, lizards, owls, black mamba, buffalo...and we were stopped by the section ranger who asked what we were doing at 19h00 miles from camp. After explaining our situation he bid us farewell and asked us not to squash his frogs!

A night drive in KNP is always fun. A night drive on your own, in your own car without a guide is even better! It just makes you feel so insignificant & vulnerable.

Anyway, this trip started at Letaba.
